  ACUTE HAZARDS PREVENTION FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE & EXPLOSION Flammable. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.  Finely dispersed particles form explosive mixtures in air.  NO open flames, NO sparks and NO smoking.  Closed system, dust explosion-proof electrical equipment and lighting. Prevent deposition of dust.  Use water spray, powder, foam, carbon dioxide.

PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST! STRICT HYGIENE! IN ALL CASES CONSULT A DOCTOR!
  SYMPTOMS PREVENTION FIRST AID
Inhalation Cough. Sore throat. Headache. Burning sensation. Shortness of breath. Laboured breathing.  Use ventilation (not if powder), local exhaust or breathing protection.  Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Refer immediately for medical attention.
Skin MAY BE ABSORBED! Redness. Skin burns. Pain. Blisters.  Protective gloves. Protective clothing.  Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower for at least 15 minutes. Refer immediately for medical attention .
Eyes Redness. Pain. Blurred vision. Severe burns.  Wear face shield or eye protection in combination with breathing protection if powder.  Rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible). Refer immediately for medical attention.
Ingestion Abdominal pain. Burning sensation. Diarrhoea. Nausea. Vomiting. Shock or collapse.  Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Wash hands before eating.  Rinse mouth. Do NOT induce vomiting. Refer immediately for medical attention.

SPILLAGE DISPOSAL CLASSIFICATION & LABELLING
Personal protection: chemical protection suit including self-contained breathing apparatus. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment. Sweep spilled substance into sealable containers. If appropriate, moisten first to prevent dusting. Then store and dispose of according to local regulations.

According to UN GHS Criteria

PHYSICAL & CHEMICAL INFORMATION

Physical State; Appearance
ODOURLESS HYGROSCOPIC WHITE OR WHITE-YELLOW CRYSTALLINE POWDER.

Physical dangers
Dust explosion possible if in powder or granular form, mixed with air.

Chemical dangers
Decomposes on burning. This produces toxic vapours of mercury and mercury oxides. Reacts with oxidizing materials.

Formula: C8H8HgO2 / CH3COOHgC6H5
Molecular mass: 336.7
Decomposes at 147-150°C
Solubility in water, g/100ml at 20°C: 0.44 (very poor)
Vapour pressure, Pa at 25°C: 0.016
Relative vapour density (air = 1): 11.6
Relative density of the vapour/air-mixture at 20°C (air = 1): 1
Flash point: 37.8°C c.c.
Octanol/water partition coefficient as log Pow: 0.71

EXPOSURE & HEALTH EFFECTS

Routes of exposure
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol, through the skin and by ingestion.

Effects of short-term exposure
The substance is corrosive to the eyes, skin and respiratory tract. Corrosive on ingestion.

Inhalation risk
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly on spraying.

Effects of long-term or repeated exposure
Repeated or prolonged contact may cause skin sensitization. The substance may have effects on the nervous system and kidneys. Animal tests show that this substance possibly causes toxicity to human reproduction or development.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS
TLV: 0.1 mg/m3, as TWA; (skin).
MAK: skin absorption (H); sensitization of skin (SH); carcinogen category: 3

ENVIRONMENT
The substance is very toxic to aquatic organisms. Bioaccumulation of this chemical may occur along the food chain, for example in fish and crustacea. Avoid release to the environment in circumstances different to normal use.

NOTES
Explosive limits are unknown in literature, although the substance is combustible and has a flash point < 55°C.
Do NOT take working clothes home.
